OECD 451/OCSPP 870.4200: Carcinogenicity studies
Carcinogenicity studies provide guidance on the 18-30 month observation of mice and rats for development of neoplastic lesions when exposed to various doses of test substance.
Administration routes (oral, dermal or inhalation) depend on the toxicokinetic profile/physical characteristics of the test substance.
Daily or weekly (more thorough) observation reports include animal weight, skin/fur evaluation and activity levels.
Blood counts, necropsy and histopathology are also performed.
