Peri-tendon injection procedure
Peri-tendon injection is typically used to reduce inflammation when treating chronic tendinopathies. Injections should be peritendinous to avoid injection directly into tendon substance and tendon rupture. Studies on animal models have shown that intratendinous corticosteroid can disrupt the biomechanical properties of tendons, inhibiting formation of granulation, adhesions and connective tissue.
An ultrasound can be used as image guidance to enhance success rate of peri-tendon therapy.
