Ocular anterior chamber puncture aspirates the aqueous humor, contributing to the diagnosis of conditions such as endophthalmitis and uveitis. Intraocular detection of viruses/parasites/bacteria in the aqueous humor accelerates early and specific diagnosis. 

The technique is also used to instantaneously reduce intraocular pressure in cases of acute angle closure glaucoma.
