Lumbar puncture: Delivery and collection

Surgical Procedure

Lumbar puncture involves the insertion of a needle between two vertebrae in the lower back. It can be used to either to remove a sample of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) or to administer drugs into the CSF. 

This procedure can be used for single or multiple deliveries to the intrathecal space or for collection of 0.5–1.0 ml of CSF.
