The induction of drug metabolizing CYP-enzymes can have significant pharmacological and toxicological consequences. To predict CYP induction in vitro, monolayer cultures of human hepatocytes are used as a model. 

Regulatory guidance advocates the use of CYP mRNA expression as the preferred endpoint for the quantification of induction.
