Model: Hindlimb Ischemia (HLI)
The hindlimb ischemia (HLI) model allows exploration of the effects of varying degrees of ischemia on vascular remodeling and skeletal muscle regeneration in the model (typically mice).
This model mirrors the environment of human peripheral artery disease (PAD) and facilitates development of new therapies for the disease by assessing muscle tissue responses.
Effects of genetic background and cardiovascular risk factors can also be evaluated through HLI models. In some studies, the HLI model has been modified to induce gradual vessel occlusion to mimic the chronic ischemia of PAD more closely.
