Ovariectomy & oophorectomy procedures
While it goes by several names (i.e. ,ovariectomy, ovarioectomy or oophorectomy), this procedure represents the surgical removal of one or both ovaries.
Typically carried out in rats, mice, hamsters, gerbils and guinea pigs, this technique is beneficial in preclinical research studies related to estrogen and how it effects physiological metabolism, osteoporosis and sexual behavior.
It has also been shown to influence hemostatic markers in mice and rats.
